Learn to Settle

Be still (cease striving, settle down) and know that I am God… Psalm 46:10

Anchor 1

Settling Exercises:

  • Take a leisurely walk, alone, without the phone.

  • Pull weeds in your yard, a park, along the street.

Focus the portion of your mind that runs in frantic circles--over issues, what ifs, the future, the past—on the weeds. Put your energy into them.

Periodically ask Jesus a question about weeds.

What would You like to up root from my life?

How do they get here?

Why are they so tenacious?

Occasionally pray the name, “Jesus,” as a simple prayer then listen.

Ask Him to tend you as His own garden.

Not a lot of conversation, but use weeding as a time to practice single-mindedness, shushing other thoughts, and giving Him room to speak.
